Calvert Homeschool placement tests, pre-cruise surgery
A week ago, I hobbled (yes, my foot that underwent surgery is still in recovery-mode) up and down the stairs at home to monitor my two students while they took their Placement Test for Calvert Homeschooling. Due to our July departure, we needed to administer the test prior to the completion of their school year. Calvert warned against this, but knew we had no choice. A call came in on Tuesday putting all my worries to rest. Both Cammi and Cole matriculated to the next grade. We officially start 4th and 6th grade! Congrats to my kids and to their teachers over the years. Today, Calvert's website will receive payment and the kids will become homeschoolers.
The skipper had a wonderful week, too. Tom's back working for a large VC firm in Boston as an EIR, entrepreneur in residence. As he beefs up his resume, he also beefs up his muscles at the gym. One such muscle rebelled. Call in the big needle of cortisone. Tom went from needing my crutches to Superman overnight.
I am quickly checking off items: meeting with Property Mgr for our home, phone call with our Mail Manager in Oregon, and financial management meetings. Management overload! At one point last week, I was in the car, driving the kids to all their after-school commitments, for 5 hours straight. That is one chore I do with a smile but am not going to miss.
Last week I felt very connected to my new life. Two sailing women, Kathy Tillman (of s/v Someday Came) and Jennifer Spring (of s/v Safari and Aquila) reached out to me. Kathy, who's currently sailing in the Caribbean and is from RI, went out of her way to check up on Zen. She sent the photo from this week's blog from Antigua. We already have floating good neighbors waiting for us. Jennifer saw our blog and emailed me. She runs the Tall Ships event in Newport and we met for coffee. She and her family, also 2 kids and a hubby, are making their plans to start a cruise next year. The new web of friends is forming...the ones that last a lifetime...right, Don?!
Zen happily waiting for us in Antigua.
From Monique: when I post these, if I am lacking photos from crew...I'll add some random sailing ones to keep it fun!
